Did any 1894's 3855's built around 1906 come with 24" barrels.

    Yes, Winchester did make some special order Sporting Rifles with a 24-inch (versus the standard 26-inch) barrel length. If the serial number is less lan 354,000, I highly recommend having it researched/lettered by the Cody Firearms Museum to verify the barrel length. That said, if you can post a few pictures of it, I can most likely determine if it is factory original.

    All I know is that the pin that holds the magazine band is 3 3/4" from the muzzle. The position of the front site and the crown are correct.

    That sounds correct to me. As long as the proof mark and caliber stamp are in the correct locations, it is very likely to be original.
