Few SKS questions for gurus.:-)

Hey, folks. I am looking to get myself an SKS. I know yugos are well made, but since the barrel is not chrome lined, I am not even considering it.
I know Russians are very good, but I do not know if the barrel is chrome lined or not. Besides, they are expensive.
Which leaves Romanian SKS (I know that the barrel IS chrome lined, but I do not know are they milled or stamped)
And Chinese (I know that the barrel is chrome lined, but I do not know if they are milled or stamped)
Now, can someone tell me how to tell if receiver is milled or stamped?
Now, I know that milled lower, means that the front of the trigger guard will WIDEN before it fuses with lower receiver, and stamped will not widen, but instead will flatten along the lower receiver.
What about receiver itself? How to determined if it is milled or stamped. I have heard both, good and bad things about Chinese SKS.
Anyone cares to elaborate what to watch out for? I have milled norinco Hunter and I am VERY happy with it. I constantly outshoot my Arsenal 7.62 with it. Can someone help me to get a quality chinese SKS?
What about Romanian SKS? Are those any good?

Finally, can someone tell me what is the external diameter of the SKS barrel?

Thank you

DT

My chinese sks, a short, carbine variation, has a "milled" or forged steel receiver. When I bought it years ago, the seller gave buyers a choice of a forged or stamped receiver. The forged receiver was five ro ten bucks more.

Also, my Russian SKSs have forged receivers.

Also some Chinese SKS'S with stamped recievers have the barrel pinned in, not threaded. That is something else to watch out for.

My Albanian and my Yugo are both forged recievers.
To be honest, I've never SEEN a stamped SKS reciever.

The "Pinned" versions have a PIN at the joint between barrel and receiver. The Threaded Barrel versions have FLATS (two IIRC) on the barrel where it meets the receiver.

MILLED receivers have tool marks (obvious machining marks).

    I can't say I've ever seen a Stamped SKS.
