Replacing the Bolt Shroud on a Rem 700 ISS

I have a Remington 700 VS that has the nasty ISS lock on it. I am contemplating replacing the bolt shroud and possibly the firing pin assembly. I have two main questions.

1. I have the tool to pull the firing pin assembly from the bolt housing but am not sure how to get the shroud off? Can anyone tell me how to do this.

2. From a previous post where NONONSENSE helped me out he suggested that I replace the whole firing pin assembly for better performance. I am kind of short on funds and am wondering if I will be able to tell the difference with the type of shooting that I do. I shoot sub 1/2" groups with this 22-250 but I am not a bench rest shooter, this is mostly used for small game/varmints and informal targets.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

the firing pin is held to the cocking piece with a through pin, it takes a special tool to remove this (easily). brownells sells them.

Normal varmint hunters, plinkers probably would never notice the difference that a fitted FP assembly would make. As far as the ISS is concerned just don't use it, as it will not make or break your shooting ability's .....
The shroud is pinned in and is under spring pressure, so be careful if you decide to replace it.
As long as money is short, I wouldn't even bother with it......

or,....go to sinclair website,..and order the "piercision" replacement which comes with new firing pin, new spring, and new shroud, already together. Spin the old one out,..spin the new assembly in. Done in under 2 minutes with faster lock time and no crappy ISS

Okay! That helps. I see how to take it apart now. Won't be to much of a challenge. Anyone else? Thanks.
