    WBG,

I have no idea what it means, but it is not a factory applied marking. Serial 2547xx was manufactured in December 1948.

could it be a factory rpair number? The story I have been told that it was used as a club to terminate a ground hog when the owmers wife
could not make is shoot. The factory box(ser. numbered to the gun)also has just a 9 penciled in aboved the orig. ser #. The gun would rate 98% with just some blue wear on the upper & lower tangs, no other signs of repair?

Very unlikely that the added number is the result of a factory repair. I have never seen a factory repair that was marked. Factory rework was often marked, but never in a visible location.
