Asking prices for guns?????

Although I am new to gunbroker.com I am not new to buying, selling and collecting firearms, specifically hunting rifles. I will probably get hacked-on for this but I cannot understand why people who want to sell a rifle on gunbroker want over 100% Blue book and gun show value. I am partial to Mannlicher full stocks of all manufacture and the prices are outrageous. If you don't believe me look at all the 0 bids for the listings that come and go. I'm sorry, but a used rifle that is 20-40 years old does not demand over a 100% blue book value. Since I have been reviewing this site over the past two years, there are alot of repeat listers who obviously cannot sell what they want to do to inflated prices. Am I wrong!?!? I usually am, according to my wife.

Sadly you are all to correct, but what can you do???? If they list it fair ,they will sell it and if they continue the inflated prices it will forever clutter the listings. I see fine weapons all the time that are so inflated that they have bean re-listing constantly for a year or two.

Hello I agree but remember because of the free relist a large % of guns on this site are really IMHO not for sale . Do a smart search on guns with NO RESERVE this will filter out 50% of the guns that are over priced beyond an chance of selling then scan the 50 % left and if the starting price is over $100.00 eliminate those "another 40%" and you will end up with the 10% of firearms that the Seller truly wants to sell Just my $.02 Until we get a penny auction the forums will be the best part of this site.

Before addressing the subject, let me say that it sounds a lot like a complaint, & complaints are not permitted on this forum. This is stated in the Posting Guidelines, so don't be surprised if a moderator zaps your posting.

We have all noted the condition you observed. But, I see the same thing at gun shows & gun stores, where many dealers put out the same overpriced guns, month after month, year after year. I don't understand it, but the business model must work for them. When I am a serious seller, I will price a gun to SELL, & lower my price until it DOES; not these folks. My theory of gun show prices is that these overpriced dealers use their stock as window dressing to attract sellers, & sell the good stuff to their regular customers in a private sale; but, anyone else's guess is as good as mine.

Yes, it is frustrating to have to pick out the serious sellers from the game players on online auctions. But, you & I can only control what we do, & my policy is to ignore those playing games.

there are 2 sides 2 this, many mannlicher guns are rare and collectible but buyers are few. I've had guns on this site listed for a year then finally sell at the ask price which was fair. This is especially true of higher priced guns
