I have what I think is a Chiefs special Airweight with a 1 7/8" barrel. It is in good to Excellent condition. Serial# J995448. Says Mod-37. Was wondering the approximate year of the model and it's approximate current value.
Thanks for your help.

According to the BlueBook:
95% cond $250.00
98% cond $350.00
100% cond $400.00
"Excellent" could be any one of these.
Welcome to the forums.
Hello.
I don't believe the Modle 37 is the one with the shrouded hammer. I believe that one is the Model 38, but I could be mistaken.
Bluebook quotes are often times a tad low, and I think your gun, if it is in decent shape (i.e. NRA very good to unfired, in-the-box) would probably bring a bit more.....perhaps 20% more than Bluebook price listings.
The model 38 has the shrouded hammer frame and is also an airweight model. It is the light weight version of the model 49.
Top model 49... Middle 649... Bottom Mod 38.

Model 37 = Airweight "Chief's Special" (has hammer)
Model 38 = Airweight "Bodyguard" (shrouded hammer)
Model 49 = Steel "Bodyguard" (shrouded hammer)
Model 40 = Steel "Centennial" (concealed hammer, grip safety)
Model 42 = Airweight "Centennial" (concealed hammer, grip safety)
