Two weeks ago at a gun show, I found a Savage 99F in 284 with a monte carlo stock making it a DL model.
Bore is in excellent shape as is the wood,
The bluing is 90% + with basically only a slight scratch on the receiver.
I got very, very lucky on this. When I finally negotiated the price, paid and had it in my hands, I literally ran out to the parking lot.

I am wondering if anyone has an idea how many Savage 99s were manufactured in 284?

I ask as I know is rare but info is scarce to say the least

I was looking at the above model 99c and then compare to www.savage99.com info.

    It does not match up.

The web site says a 99c should be a straight grip with a curved schnoble forearm.

Close up pics of the rifle I am looking at show a pistol grip and a straight forearm. And, on the pics I can read model 99C and .284 cal.

Am I missing something? I am confused to say the least.

There is the letter "B" under the word model.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

Murray's book "The Ninety-nine" says the 284 was made from 1964 to 1970. It does not say how many were made. It was cut checkering in 1964 then went to impressed checking in 1965 on the 99-DL.
