Smith&Wesson revolver question

I ran across a S&W model 66 (4 inch) that I have a question about for you S&W gurus. The 66- had the last number struck through making it difficult to read but I think it was a 2 or 3. It had a pinned barrel but did not have the recessed cylinder. Also, it had a red ramp front sght but no white outline on the rear sight. Would this be factory (maybe a transition gun between models) or has someone altered this gun?

It is not a transistion between models, but a transistion between revisions of a model. I do believe that the pinned barrel was changed on the 66-1. If you could post some clear, and close up photo's it would be a great help.

On the 66-2 in 1982 the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder was eliminated. It is possible, depending on the product code to have the red rmp front and plain black rear. If you have the box, give us the code off the end. By having the - number struck out, S&W might not have had anymore recessed cyls. when your gun was built.
