Interchanging Ruger 10-22 and 77-22 Mags

I have a Ruger 77-22 and a friend just gave me 5 new-in-the-package 10-round 10/22 magazines. The mags for the 77-22 and the 10-22 look exactly the same and, according to my friend, I can use the 10-22 mags in my 77-22. However, I looked up the part numbers on Ruger's website and they're different. The 77-22 mag carries part # 90057; the 10-22 mags are part # 90057. I don't want to remove the 10-22 mags from their original packaging until I'm sure they'll work. Anyone know if the mags for these two 22 RF rifles are interchangable? Would I damage my 77-22 or experience any problems if I try to use the 10-22 mags? Thanks for the help.

They use the same mags. Even though the part numbers are different, 90057-90005.

The magazines for the 10/22 and 77/22 will fit and function interchangeably. The difference is in the contour of the bottoms of the magazines. The 77/22 magazine is flat and the 10/22 is rounded. When interchanged the 77/22 magazine will be below the stock contour in a 10/22 and a 10/22 magazine will protrude slightly in a 77/22. The magazine latch in either gun will hold either magazine in proper alignment to feed and function.

+1 What Jim R. said. The difference in contours is slight and I use them interchangeably in my 10/22 and 77/22's.

Sorry for the mistake on the part numbers. It was late when I was writing up my entry and didn't thoroughly proof my work before hitting post. My 3rd grade teacher is probably rolling over in her grave!!!

Indeed, the part numbers are 90005 for the 10-22 and 90057 for the 77-22. Thanks for getting past my initial buffoonery and providing the solid info I needed. I'll give the mags a try.

As stated the difference it the in the bottom shape of the mag. I have 1, 77/22 mag for my 77/22 and 6, 10/22 mags for it. I use 10/22 mags basically for the same reason you do, I didnt pay for any of them.

Yep, know what you mean. As the old saying goes, you pay for quality. However, sometimes "FREE" has a quality all its own!!
