4th Generation Glock

I am looking into a new Glock 17. My question: What is the difference between a 4th Generation and 3rd generation Glock. A local FFL emailed me and asked if I was interested in a 4th gen. I cannot find anything online about a 4th gen.

Hey long time no see, I hope things are going good for you.

I am guessing you know the difference between 1,2, and 3rd Gen guns. The one big thing that I am aware of on the 4th Gen guns is the extractor has a "bump" that is flush when the chamber is empty and sticks out when it is loaded. One of those new fangled "saftey" things I guess. One big thing that having that means you can check if it is chamberd without doing a press check.

If you do pick one up I will suggest picking up a 3.5lb disconector for it. My 4th Gen G35 came with it and is much better then the 5lb. I decided to put one in my 3rd Gen G17. They are only about $20.

I am not sure about the Ambi release. I havent seen that or even heard about it.

    Thanks Nwcid.

This is what I pretty much thought. All I can find on the glock boards is rumor, no pics of anything but the new 4th generation mags. Sounds like it might also have a new ambi mag release. The 4th gen mags have a cutout across the front of the mag.

We are back in W. Washington now....man I miss CDA and Spokane[:(].

Hey John, I own a one year old G17. Please explain what is the "disconector" that you mentioned? I'm not familiar with it. Thanks, JerryB1127

I believe that the 4th generation Glocks also have a different stippling to the grip area and have removeable back straps that can change the overall size of the grip, but doesn't help with the actual distance between the rear of the backstrap and the face of the trigger. I have several Glock gen 3's, and have shot the gen4 Glocks...in my opinion, they aren't very different. Glock could have done several things better to make the gen4 more user friendly.

It's a trigger connector, not disconnector. It lowere the trigger pull to 3.5lbs.
