M1A Barrel Threading

I am considering having my Springfield M1A barrel rethreaded for a "direct connect" brake - there's not much out there that uses the existing threading. A thread adapter really doesn't work for me, I don't want to add barrel length.
Any opnions on whether FAL threading of 9/16X24 will work on the existing M1A barrel?

An M14 barrel muzzle is treaded .595 X 32NS with a fit of 3. Compared to your 9/16 X 24; the M14 is a larger in diameter finer thread and is tight at 3. By comparison the fit on a M1 gas cylinder lock is only 2.
Now I know what my girlfriend feels like when I try to explain hockey to her. Icing, blue line, offsides .....[8D]
If the "already threaded" barrel at the muzzle is lopped of can the remaining barrel ahead of the gas lock be threaded 9/16X24? The barrel diameter measure .590, I already have a Smith Navy gas lock with front sight attached.
I've seen some threaded 1/2X28 but that leaves me with the ability to acceept all sorts of 223 diameter brakes. The 9/16X24 allows use of a fair number of FAL brakes. Being in CA an FH is out.
Smith Enterprises makes the direct connect Vortex. No mods needed, just screw it on.
I have that, the brake version anyway - it's to big for my liking. I can't use the FH version because in CA that makes the M1A a prohibited "assault weapon" .....[}:)]
That said, I'd ask over on falfiles - there are a few there who are cottage industry types and they may be able to take an unthreaded one off their line and either tap it for the M1A threads or send it to you unthreaded so you can have it tapped.
