Need quality photos for accurate identification and valuation. S & W made a whole passel of 17's from the 50's to the 80's. Without more specifics difficult to call? 8 3/8's weren't common, because nobody wanted the long barrels. The leverage from the long barrel meant you had to have Arnold's biceps, to shoot a 8 3/8" off-hand for long strings of fire.

The pie in the sky fantasy asking prices, that some folks are trying to get on GB. Don't mean squat! It's the actual selling price(s), that reflect the Fair Market Value.

That said. If the 17 is NIB? And given the relatively small number of 8 3/8's that S & W made, compared to the more common 6 1/2". It might be worth that $750 to a collector?

I've seen a couple similar guns in that price range lately, & they appear to be really difficult to sell. I might be tempted if it were $500, but......not at $750.

Going by completed gb listings $750 isn't bad, if it's NIB.

Not sure I'd want the gun or be willing to pay it, but I don't think that price is unreasonable for a true NIB 17-3 with long barrel.
