Can "very-very" minor scratches be hand polished out of a Nickel finished pistol, if so any good products recommended ? Its a factory Nickeled Colt, not polished stainless. Thanks for any info [;)]

I would like to hear what you all have done to polish chrome (yes chrome) and stainless. Minor scratches on my harley pipes and a pistol made out of stainless.....[:)]

If its a Colt, leave it to a professional, who warranty's his work. Any polishing, can wear thru the plating. If the scratch is that minor, then you might also consider leaving it alone. A hole in the finish from being polished out, will detract a lot more from the value, than a minor scratch.

Yes they can (and I've actually done this). . .but I fundamentally agree with Perry and TSR, above.

If the scratches are REALLY superficial, and the gun plating has never been worked on, you can take them out with metal polish. The issue is that its easy to go to far, and if you do, you'll wish you'll make things a LOT worse then just having left the scratches in place.

I once traded for a nickel Model 19 that looked like it had been drug behind a car on a gravel road. (LOTS of tiny scratches.) I polished it carefully with jeweler's rouge so that it looked almost new. I have since done the same with several other well-used nickel guns with the same excellent results.

I would not hesitate to polish "very-very" minor scratches the same way.
