Trying to help friend ID this J Stevens. Thought it was 225 or 325 but it has sidelock not boxlock. Any ideas? Thanks, Pel

Not sure and 900 experts are going to come out of the wood work and tell me that I am wrong, but I believe the gun to be either a Stevens Model 255 or a Model 270. Those are the only outside hammer (side lock) doubles shown in my reference. The guns are identical except that the Model 270 had Nitro Steel Barrels. Both guns were made from 1907 to 1925. How Old? Don't bother asking. There are no serial number-year made tables for Stevens made shotguns.

Pelican, good to see you posting!
I think Ned Fall might have nailed it. The 255 and 265 were about identical.
See if you can make out anything on the barrels. The No. 255 had barrels of "Stevens Compressed Forged, high pressure steel" and the No. 265 had barrels of "Krupp Fluid Steel". These were higher end shotguns in their day.

not much input on the gun
however glad to see the question . I bought one about 35 yrs ago at a auction sadly the stock is damaged to much to do a repair as its in bad shape it was screwed and taped many years before I got it I did shoot it once before knowing about checking the barrels for how they were made [:I] ,
I forgot about it till now , at least I have a lead on what model it is and re interest in finding a stock for it [;)]

Thanks guys for the input. I doesn't have damascus bbls so I am going to go with 270. What the heck, my friend just wants some info. Hey, I know he is going to ask, anybody got a value range?

    Thanks, Pel
