Beretta 92F/92FS question

I purchased a Beretta 92F that had been used as a training firearm; it had been set up with simunitions barrel. I purchased the gun without the barrel assembly. I purchased a new barrel assembly, including the new locking blocks. My understanding is that there were some breakage issues with the earlier 92 models, and that is why Beretta made the safety changes on the 92FS. I understand that my firearm lacks the slide capture device in the frame of the true 92FS. My question is: by using the new barrel assembly and locking blocks from a 92FS, have I increased the durability and the life-span of this pistol?
P.S.
How common was slide breakage and locking block failure on the older 92's?

If you look at the rear of a 92FS frame you will see a large round disc. This is a slide retention feature which will capture a broken slide in the event of a failure. The inside rail of a 92FS frame has a corresponding groove cut into it to allow it to ride over the disc while a 92F slide will not have that groove and as a result will not fit an FS frame.
