I found an add for a 54 Winchester in"35 Barnes Johnson express". Safe to assume this is an old wildcat cartridge?

I've been looking at a 54 Winchester 22 hornet. It has been drilled on the left side of the receiver, the stock is cut for a receiver sight, It has a rubber recoil pad, and it has been modified to a 22 K hornet. Would this gun have any value left other than a 400.00 shooter?

It is possible to fit the factory M70 trigger to the 54, by drilling one pin hole in the receiver for the trigger proper to hinge on. The aftermarket M70 triggers can also work.

In each case, the original bolt stop is disabled by the trigger replacement. One way of creating a new bolt stop is to run a long 6-48 screw through the rear peep sight attachment hole into a threaded block put into the left bolt lug way.

As noted, the problem with replacing the trigger is that a different bolt stop needs to be installed. A gunsmith, now passed on, machined out a slot at the back of the action into which an insert fit. It was held in place by a screw through the side of the receiver and had a "bump" on it that prevented the bolt from being removed. Once the bolt stop is accomplished the only difference betgween the trigger housing is that the sear on the M54 is slanted while the M70 is perpendicular to the firing pin.
