Im thinking about getting a new rifle and I don't know if I should go with the Vector V93(HK93 remake) or the sig 556. I heard their both pretty good guns and I like the fact that the sig takes AR mags, but I love HK.

I have a 556 and would like a V-93. The 556 is a great gun and there is no doubt that the v-93 is too. Problem with the V-93 is at $50 + a mag I would go broke in a hurry. If they made a AR mag adapter for the V-93 like they do for my Galil I would have one in a heart beat. Or if there was a V-93 clone that took AR mags.

You'll always be able to get parts for the HK.

I have both and can offer a couple points to consider; I enjoy them both.

I think one of the questions you have to answer is what kind of sighting system do you prefer?

If you prefer iron sights, the HK would be a fine choice. If not, there are sighting platforms are available but none are as stable as the flat-top offered by the SiG ... if you wanted irons for the 556, they would be an additional expense, and good sights are not cheap. The recent releases have a less than desirable front flip sight, but its something.

The 556 gas system and bolt & carrier patterened after the ultra-reliable AK design ... the 556 is also easier to clean than the HK. The 556 also has a much sweeter trigger, but a trigger job from Bill Springfield for the HK starts at $35 is very noticeable improvement and I'd highly recommend it.

Mags are always a factor, the 556 uses commonly available AR (NATO) mags which are also a consideration as the HK style mags are on the expensive side.

Lastly, I'd have to say the "parts" issue is a moot point ... Lets face it, HK's don't break, at least not under the conditions a US citizen would normally put it through ... they're built like tanks.
As to the 556, it is a currently produced weapon with 20 years of history based on the AK design ... not to mention the upper is compatible with the 550 and 551 versions which can be swapped out with no other modification ... plus due to the modular design and thanks to the AR there are already a lot of options available that will carry over to the SiG.

Hope I never have to choose!

Let me know if you want contact info.

    ???

The 556 is nothing like the AK, it is more like the Sig 550, 530, FNC and Beretta AR70.

The ingenious thing about 3 of those is placing the gas piston and action spring in the same area, leaving the rear open for folding stocks.

And everything breaks. I'd rather deal with the surplus dealers for firing pins, extractors and extractor springs than deal with SIG, they have worse customer service than HK.

Not to be argumentative but ...
Compare the bolt and carrier on the AK and SiG-550 and you'll see what I'm talking about. They aren't identical but a very close similarity. I'll lay them out and click a pic for you when I get my camera back if you like.

HK33 surplus parts aren't all that plentiful ... and in another year or so will likely be completely dried up. Even G3 kits have about dried up and there were at least 10 times the number of G3's kits imported.

Thanks for the info guy's. I hope to maybe get them both in the future so I might get the V93 first because the sig may get a little cheaper in a year or two. I only own HK hand guns and like them better than my glock and even my kimber. I like the 93 up top you tricked it out pretty nice.

By the way if I do go with the 93 will I need a gunsmith to add on a callapsable stock.

You don't need a gunsmith to add the collapsible stock ... it's held on by a single pin just like the solid stock.

The 93 collapsible stocks can be hard to find and expensive when you do ... mine is a surplus G3 collapsible stock I had it left over from another gun. I modified it by cutting back the recoil rod, cutting off the front pin hole and shortening the arms about a 1/2" ... workes perfectly.

AZEX can probably fix you up, I've heard nothing but good things about his work on HK's and Daewoos alike.
