set trigger won't set

Purchased a used TC Renegade muzzle loader off of GB recently and when it arrived I found the rear 'set trigger' isn't setting the front trigger. Consequently it has a very heavy, undesirable trigger pull.

The rear 'set trigger' has plenty of "spring" to it when pulled, but it doesn't engage and has no effect on the front trigger. Any ideas on fixing it???

Have plenty of time to work on it since it's still raining and snowing here in WI!

just got rid of mine, it has a small screw above the two triggers I think right between them, sorry can't remember for sure, but that should be the adjustment screw it in or out. If this doesn't work it may be internal.

I think hillbille's got it. Back the adjustment screw out a bit and check for 'set', you can then turn it back in to adjust for the pull you desire.
If that doesn't do it pull the trigger plate and check for wear on the engagement areas. I highly doubt this to be the case though, unless someone has filed/stoned the parts.

Hillbille's on the money. There is a tiny screw protruding down from the triggerplate, between the front and rear triggers. This can be screwed in to the point the rear sear bar no longer engages the catch on the front trigger. Backing it off slightly should allow the rear trigger to set, and backing it off still more will increase the weight of pull on the front trigger.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I tried the adjustment screw earlier and it didn't change anything. I'll take a look inside.
    Thanks again.

one more dearchaser, when you get it apart look to make sure all screws are tight had one back out once put sear on a bind made a hard trigger pull. hope you get it working.

Well, I finally got around to taking it apart since moving the screw was having no effect. Found light rust was binding the works. A little BreakFree did the trick. Thanks much for all of your help!
