M1 Backfire

Has anyone evrr heard of an M1 backfiring and throwing the bolt back causing possible injuries?

    Yes. You, (or whomever told you about it) encountered a slam-fire. Do a search on "slam fire", and read what causes it. Many posts on the subject. Best, Joe

    The situation you are describing is called a "catastrophic failure", not a "backfire". And, you have to differentiate between an operating rod coming out it's "track", & failure of the bolt. It could be caused by an excessive round, or parts failure. It's a rare occurrence in a USGI rifle, but I expect it from a poorly made clone such as a CAI.
