Anyone ever shoot this cartridge? How does it compare to an 06 or 308?

    It's a good solid push, about 4 times the level of a 30-06.
    It's a good stepping stone on the way to shooing a rifle with real recoil

    What amazes me is it was called a "light rifle". That in comparison to the other Nitro's it was compared against at the time.

    The one I shot in the desert in Nevada made me think twice about anything with a 'magnum' attached to it's name.

    I have a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby and I reload for it. The gun gives you a really decent belt, much more than the '06 or any 338. I have a 458 Win Mag also (Ruger #1) and the 416 seems to kick me a bit more. Probably due to stock design.

    Just make certain any scope you use has plenty of eye relief. I use a Leupold 2 to 7X with 5" of travel before I get hit - which hasn't happened, plenty of clearance.

    So what prompts the question - considering buying one?

    I built one on a P14 action years ago. Synthertic stock. Traded shots with a friend one morning. Between us we put 30 rounds through it. Not as bad as a 416 hoffman that I built at the same time. That rocked a person. Just MHO
