Ok i called S&W customer service today, they confirmed the now they are makeing them inhouse and about a year ago they where stag. I asked if there was any way you could tell which ones were made inhouse and the older ones. He told me no which i have a very hard time believing. Any comments?

I'm sure someone at S&W knows when the switch was made, but not the folks who answer queries. Don't worry about; it doesn't really matter.

If Stag made one in .260 I would be all over it. DPMS I can pass on.
On a slightly different note, I think Browning will be offering an AR variant in the near future. It will be the same branding idea that S&W did with Stag, except Browning will be using a different manufacturer. Should probably see it at the 09 SHOT Show.
If it did, it would be made by FN since Browning is owned by them, and they have made AR guns for the Govt in the past.
