I was bestowed this rifle that has never been fired and I have taken care not to scratch it and I beleive it is in unscratched new condition. I have looked at some 308's by sako whom I beleive is owned by Barreta now? Any way I have seen a range in prices for a new Sako of this caliber between $2000.00 and $3000.00 but having good head for value and knowing this hasnt been made since around the seventies. It may hold more value. Can anyone offer me reliable info in this regard? Thanks guys

Welcome to the forum. You have a very nice rifle. I really like the Forester, Finnbear, and Vixon models. Unfortunately, I don't think the value is as high as you are expecting. I would value a standard model Forester in .308 in 100% condition no higher than $1,200. Realistically, they usually bring less, but one in "New" condition is rarely seen and could bring more from the right buyer.

Thanks for the info, I guess I should post some serial #'s and posibly get a year and count of how many made. But it's getting late so I'll leave that for tomorrow. Any more info is certainly welcome thanks, all.

    Elmer,
TWalker is talking in the right ball park. In addition to serial number and complete description, a number of clear pictures will be needed to offer much more. (side, top, bottom metal, butt pad, muzzle, etc.) You won't find a nicer rifle, IMHO, and like you say, they aren't making them any more. I'd hang on to it. My .308 is highly customized, stock, barrel, etc. Probably has 2 to 3 times the cash in it as your, and NOT worth as much as your original.

If you want to sell it, sell it on GB. A dealer would probably give you no more than $500. I wouldn't sell it.

    I took some pics w/ the serial #'s but I'm sure if you'll see them I beleive it's model # L579 and serial # 52787
I feel having this gun is a waste for me. All I do is shoot paper and not even that often. To fire this a couple of times in a range when it's never been fired almost seems sacraligous. I have never hunted anything but fish. I cant hunt deer w/this at least not here in Indiana. I keep thinking the longer I keep it the more chance I have of droping it or something stupid. I am not big on possesions I enjoy having things but I can live w/out most of my toys. But I also enjoy finding good deals and knowing I have made a good deal so I am just doing some homework. And I appreciate all the knowledge you guys can and have offered. This is a very sleek gun and someone should enjoy it. Well now I cant find a wy to insert my pics, do I have to have a different membership for that? Thanks guys.

Elmer Fudd- Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Your Sako Forester was born real close to May of 1966. It is a real shame you won't be hunting with it. Great rifle and caliber to carry on a deer hunt. All I can tell about value without seeing good pictures of it is that the .308s sell for a bit more than .243s. _Best, Mike
