Help with a scope mount on M1A decision

I am mounting an optic on a M1A with Sage EBR stock and am looking at a springfield mount. My question is is the steel mount worth the $262 it sells for or should I just get the aluminum at half the price?

    No.

Check out the ARMS or Smith Enterprise mounts.

FWIW a friend has the Springfield steel mount, I've had the Sadlak and now have an ARMS 18. The ARMS 18 sits lowest and is solid. I had excellent results with the Sadlak, but found it sat a touch too high for my taste.

Bassett supposedly makes an excellent M1A mount, I've not tried one personally.

The McCann Ind. M1a Mount is the best for the money IMO

Rich McCann was a great machinist and Gunsmith and knew his way around a M1a better than most.

He was also a good friend of mine. His wife runs the company now and they are still producing top notch stuff.
