Can a adjustable choke (old style, twist type) be removed and barrel be rechoked or a new style removable choke system installed?

We're they just added to barrel or was barrel shortened to accomodate them, so there wasn't excessive length.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Merry Christmas

YES, THE OLD CHOKE CAN BE REMOVED (PIPE CUTTER, HACK SAW, ECT.) AND NEW WINCHOKE TYPE CHOKE TUBES INSTALLED. IT TAKES SPECIAL TOOLING THO.

You need to measure your barrel before you shorten it. I have thin wall choke tubes in two my shotguns. The H&R barrel required the thin wall tubes so I put them in the 870 at the same time. Both are 20" long barrels that share 5 choke tubes. My favorite choke tube is marked Skeet #2. They are Colonial brand. Be sure and use the correct metal filled anti-seize compound in the threads.

Often times it's not economically fesible to remove the Polychoke and install current type chokes. They actually work pretty good and to me anyway are much superior to new style single chokes. They need no tools and you can't lose anything.

It appears most are removed for styling rather than function.

I like the old style choke devices. Of course, I'm so old that when I got into shotguns, the Cutts Compensator was the choke to have. I wanted one but couldn't afford one. Now I can buy a shotgun with a Poly or a Cutts for much less than the same gun without one. Sometimes things change for the better!

But to answer your question: In the installation of the choke device, the barrel could be shortened to any legal length or the device could be added to the barrel lengthening it.

Other than looks, why do you want to remove it [?][?]
My first shotgun back about '57 was a Wards 16ga with a poly-choke. Have had a couple more with them and they work very good. Most guys now-a-days don't want one and can pick one up cheep [;)]

Screw-in chokes are a pain in the *, atleast to me [V], although not stylish (in fact they're right ugly) poly chokes are the way [;)] shooting conditions and birds flying distances can change pretty fast on dove shoots and I don't want to be digging around looking for my wrench and sorting thru chokes missing the action [:)].
