What $400 AR-15 5.56 Complete Upper Receivers to G

I'm new to the AR-15 rifle and am building one from a stripped lower receiver. My question is what brands are recommended in the $350- $400 range? I realize there are a lot of options, and high quality uppers would run much higher. Basically, I'm looking for as complete as possible in an upper, including the bolt carrier group. I've seen DPMS, JSE and Bushmaster but don't know if these are brands to avoid or are halfway decent for a basic reliable target range AR. Any input would be helpful.

I doubt very seriously if you are going to be able to get anything descent for under $400. I've delt with this outfit before, you might look over their offerings.

Most likely the DPMS Oracle upper, will be the most affordable upper, that is of decent quality. Although, it does have a light weight barrel that is not chrome lined. If you are not going to put hundreds of rounds thru it, and get it real hot, it would suffice.

I'm only looking for one, and it won't be used much. It's mainly going to be a "back up" gun. I'll shoot it occasionally to keep in practice, but not a serious shooting rifle.

I did go to the above link and am considering the surplus supply kit.

I'd spend a few more bucks and get the S&W's AR that's ready to go out of the box. And trick out the reciever for the real build. That way you can part together from what you learned from the S&W.

That would be okay but he should order it without the quad rail. For a casual shooter the poster doesn't need it and it should knock a few more bucks off the total cost.
