Edit #1, Your going to have to provide, sharp closeup photos of the markings on the receiver and barrel.







EDIT #2, There were two flavors of the Model 49 carbine. The early super high quality, Czech made ones. Than the rough as a cob ones made in Iran. If your FIL's is one of the latter, not likely it's going to be a big buck item. Specially if it has a bunch of surface rusting, like his other guns.

I need a better picture of the crest to accurately id.

My best guess is a Model 49 Iranian carbine.

Appears to be the Persian Lion and Sun crest found on Persian Mausers.. Yours is most likely a Model 49 Carbine..

You guys pegged it. An Iranian made copy of the Czech 33 carbine.

If you really want to know more about these rifles, that you keep posting, you are going to have to improve your skills with the camera. There is so much more that is left on the table, because of the quality of the photographs. If there were good pictures of the markings, proof marks, and some other features, you would be surprised on what you could find out here.
