Any way to tighten the barrel assm to the receiver on these?

how do you tell the difference in a 97 takedown model and a non takedown model. Thanks in advance , Len

If you have adjusted the barrel collar to the maximum there is nothing else you can do short of finding a new barrel collar or thicker receiver ring that the barrel butts up against.

97'S HAVE AN ADJUSTMENT RING, IF THIS IS 'ADJUSTED' AS FAR AS IT GOES YOU NEED THE NEXT SIZE UP RING (6 TOTAL)............THEY AREN'T MARKED[V], TRIAL & ERROR. MOST 'OLDER' GUNSMITHS HAVE A BOX OF THESE (SAME RING AS THE LATER M-12'S USE).

I've looked & did not see that. Will look again when I get home. I was looking for something like on a model 12.

Took the old 97 apart sat. & found the adjuster. Did the trick. This gun was well used & abused before me. It was fairly tight when I got it, but the first time I broke it down I found out why. Someone made a shim out of thin gasket material between the barrel base & inner part of the receiver, which came apart during cleaning. Surprisingly The screw & adjuster loostened & adjusted rather freely. I did finally adjust my dad's old model 12 yesterday. Had to get It out of the back of the safe. It had been shot a lot thnks to my brothers & myself growing up but had been well cared for. The screw that held the adjuster was stuck. With some mild persuasion I got it free. Tight as new.
