Only the 916T has a Barrel that is a Take Down....Other than that it will require a Gunsmith with Barrel Clamps and a Frame jig to hold the Frame to remove the barrels from the 916 and the 916 "EASTFIELD"... To take the Bolt out of the Action requires a little expertise...and should be left to the hands of a Qualified Gunsmith....

Hello Throckmorton, I should have asked Capt K before forging ahead; I probably would have just laid mine aside. I took down a "fixed barrel" 916 Eastfield to replace the single slide bar assembly tieing the bolt to the fore-end. It took me a looong time and I had the S&W exploded assembly sheet as a guide. The buttstock has to come off and the bolt comes out the back of the receiver. I did it myself because the $value - maybe $75.00 - of the gun didn't justify the expense of a pro to me. Anyway, if you need/want the S&W sheet on the gun, email me your address & I'll send a xerox. Good luck, Jim

Well dang, that certainly wasn't the answers I wanted to hear.....but it does make me feel better that I couldn't get it off.
The gun is full functional so it doesn't "have" to come off, just wanted to do some serious cleaning and such.
    Thanks guys!
