Will a 18" 2 3/4 bbl work on a 3" receiver if I only use 2 3/4 shells ?

Yes, but it won't work the other way around. I tried a barrel chambered in 3" on a 2 3/4" receiver. It fired without a problem but the shell wouldn't eject or cycle.

Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.

Note to Robin, if you change the ejector spring to a 3" magnum spring you're in business. That is the only difference between a 2 3/4 receiver and a 3" receiver.

Booger,You sure about that??! That's VERY interesting! So then I guess it would be the same for the autoloaders?? As in most 1100's are 2 3/4 and I have always heard the only diff. in the 1100 and the 1187 is the 3" mag capability.I have seen numerious 1100's in 3" so what is the difference in them and a 1187?? Anyone out there??? Thanks,Wade

I am 100% sure about 870's. I have several, hunt with them, tinker with them, etc.

Talkin Head is on the right track, but I don't know much about the Remington autoloader family. The gas regulating mechanism is different between guns.

1100 gas mechanism is set as either 3" or 2 3/4, while the 11-87 is supposed to be self regulating so as to function with either load. That's about the limits of my autoloader knowledge.

My favorite would be the pump, so naturally I'd say stick with them if you're trying to choose.
