on a hunch. Did I make the right choice? Did anyone had any problems with this pistol?

One of the best pistols made.
I have two P-89's and never had a problem with either one of them.
No matter what your serial number is it will accept 10,15,20 and 30 round magazines.
Take it from someone who found out the hard way, Buy Only Factory Magazines, and ones made from MecGar, if you come across them.

You got a good pistol for the money.

Own a P-89 DAO and right out of the box it made me look like an old pro. Almost scared me into believing I was a crack shot. Looked a
little different than "conventional " autos then but true to Ruger, well ahead of its time. Still a favorite of mine. Well balanced in the hand and a better shooter than I am capable of.

I have a P89DC with over 10K rounds through it without and malfunctions. Good gun.
My P944, after some 5K rnds had three failure to extract in the same session. I remembered I had not removed the extractor for cleaning since new. Well I started the next 5K yesterday without malfunction.[:D]

In my opinion you have made a great choice. The gun should last a lifetime with routine care.

Pete8, I'd venture to say now that you own one...

you'll soon own two. And that may not be the end of it. [^]

    You did good!

Bought a P89 six or seven years ago during a sale at a local shop for $239. The accuracy and reliability surprised me for that price. During those years I have fired it more than the other 9mm's I own. The darn thing just seems to keep going like the Energizer Bunny. You made a good choice................Hondo
