Volquartsen 17 HMR-Good Price/Bad Price??

I have been persuaded to select a different varmit rifle from a friend. He said I should look at the Volquartsen 17 HMR. I did look at one here at our local gun shop. I found the light weight model with the Carbon Fiber barrel and Nikon Scope for $1,250.00. Is that price in line with today's market? It was the Demo model and everyone I spoke with at the range had great things to say about the rifles accuracy etc. etc. It comes with the Hogue Oversized Stock. I am definitely going to get the Volquartsen Brand but I am not sure if I am going to get that particular rifle from this shop. Does anyone know where I can get the ammunition for this in bulk as I am finding out now that the rounds can be hard to come by? Can someone please explain what the "HMR" stands for? Thanks for all the help.

    It doesn't sound like you're getting any real bargain. http://volquartsen.com/ has that gun listed for about that money, but it doesn't have the optics with it. A Volquartsen custom is one of the most accurate guns out there.

    HMR = Hornady Magnum Rimfire

    So far, the biggest complaint I've heard about the gun is that the ammo is in short supply. Second, a .17 projectile sure seems to catch the wind badly. I used to have a .17 Rem centerfire that was awesome on calm days, but sucked badly on windy days.
