24" 5R barrel 1:12 and .150gr bullet in .270 Win

My son was looking at the TC Venture and was wondering if it'll stabilize a .150grainer. My .270 Win WM is a 1:10 and handles the .150g NBT very well but no hands on experience with the 1:12 twist.

Please advise. Thanks.

EDIT: Sorry for the typo, it's supposed to be .270 Win not .270 WM. Thanks again for all your comments.

The short answer is yes, it will handle the 150 grain bullet as well as your 1 in 10.

    FEENIX,

The standard Spitzer (soft point) in the 150 grain weight class will stabilize but the Nosler Ballistic Tip with the plastic nose is just a touch too long to guarantee stability with the 1:12" twist. Your Weatherby with the increased velocity would stand a better chance with a 1:12" than the slower .270 Win.

However, testing will reveal the absolute truth as some barrels run a pinch faster than others so they might work just fine. Shoot some to see.

If the hole in the target is a little bit oblong you can drop down one grade to the 140 grain weight class with little loss of energy in the average distances where shots are taken for hunting.

    Best.

    ADDED:

Ooooo, good catch! The velocity can make a difference.

    Best.
