How do I know where to set an adjustable choke?

My father in law sold me a gun this past week. It's an older Mossberg 12 ga bolt actions shotgun. It's in pretty decent shape for its age, and he only wanted $75 for it.
I plan to use it to hunt deer in a few weeks, but there is one thing I am not certain about.
The old gun has one of the adjustable chokes on it. It is a smoothbore. I am using plain old slugs, not sabots.
What is the proper setting for that choke in this application?

PS: It's only worth $75.
http://www.box54.com/inst 183K.jpg The above poster is wrong. C-lect chokes can use slugs.
IC will do the best.
I am lost. What is "IC"?

the c-lect will say cylinder use that. IC is improved cylinder most ammo manufatures recommend Imporved Cylinder for best results.

Unless this gun has some add-on sights, you should keep your shots to very short range.
Slugs shoot the best through cylinder and i.c. chokes.
However, moms 1978 870 Wingmaster has a fixed mod. choke barrel on it. It has killed more deer since it was made than some kill in their entire life.
