I am looking at a used Dan Wesson 357 revolver. It looks good. However the rear sight is a notch in the frame. There is no adjustment. Can I trust it to shoot to the point of aim? Also how difficult, ($) to add a scope or other optical sight? Is Dan Wesson a good revolver?

Have a chance to buy a Dan Wesson 357mag, serial#190746 would like to know the model/year of this gun. adjustable sights, 4" barrel. Also when the gun warms up from being shot the trigger stays back in the fired position, and has to be pushed forward manually to reset, any thoughts?

    Hello all, new blood here.
I have a Dan Wesson arms 357 Magnum model 15 manufactured in Monson, Mass, serial number 359xxx that I purchased from a friend needing money in 1982. The gun has a vented, interchangeable, 4" barrel, original wood grips with DW insert, rear sight is both windage and elevation adjustable. I have shot less than fifty rounds in the gun in the many years I have owned it. I still have half of the box of 38 special ammo I got when I bought the gun from him. I didn't realize I don't especially like revolvers until I owned one. I would like to sell the gun to buy another semi-auto pistol that I do like, but have no idea what this gun is worth. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Gun is in very good mechanical shape with a few very small cosmetic spots.
    Thanks.

Try going to gunbroker.com and searching for the Wesson to find what others are asking. There're other sites, but I'm not sure they can be mentioned here.[:D]

I used to have a Dan Wesson in .357 w/4" barrel. It shot very accurately at the range...could do some pretty good groups. The gun functioned okay otherwise also. The method for securing the barrel and shroud with the retainer ring works good, but eventually the "notches" you engage with the wrench may "round off" some...no big deal...they are probably cheap and it may not happen to you if you are careful.

I'm thinking your "CTG" was intended to mean "cartridge", and not the model. All I was able to find was this:

    "Pistol Pack Series"
    Model 15/715
    .357 Magnum
(there is a choice of a "small frame" or "large frame" in this "pack"...your's is the small frame since it has four barrels instead of three)
    Adjustable Rear Sight
    Barrels: 2.5", 4", 6", 8"
    Cleaning Kit
    Wrench Kit
    Extra Exotic Wood Grips
    Manual
    Fitted Hard Case
Choice of Blue or Stainless Steel Finish ("7" prefix = stainless)

***It looks like this may be a "New Generation Compensated Series." If so, the barrels have an integral compensator and I don't have any experience with these.

Price...as per the Standard Catalog of Firearms:
    NIB $1200
    EXC $950

So, I'm going by the "2 sets of grips" you mentioned and the "hard case" for the most part, and the four barrels you mentioned of course. A model number would be helpful. I'm just guessing this is what you are looking at?

If this is it the price looks pretty good if it's in Excellant condition...my reference doesn't have any prices lower than this grade for this gun. You said 90%? Okay, maybe the price sounds fair to mid-land.

    Hey bud
AS you know[:D] ,that is a safe bet[:(]No pistols for sale in city limits
just 3 shops on the outskirts
I saw this one by milwaukee
The barrels are heavy non vent & they are marked CTG
Gun looks alot nicer then the mod 15 just not sure how well made?
We have a newer shop in stoughton been stoping in ever other week
some good deals also does transfers for $20
He had a mismarked Benelli m1 20 ga camo,I should have pointed it out to him [;)]but NO, I bought it

I think the wesson might be worth about 600 so lets find out what they think . I have a desert eagle .44 I was think about getting rid of but need more then 6

Nelchris: one thing to look for are the barrels ported ? I've read that on the Dan Wesson ported models you need to remove the shroud and clean the space between the barrel and shroud on a regular basics or it will built up to much crap in there and you wouldn't be able to get the shroud off when you want to , now I would think this would take a fair amount of shooting but it's something to keep in mind [;)]

My hunting partner picked up a like new Wesson .357, 2 inch barrel for $200. Very nice pistol, feels good in the hand, shoots well, seems tight and solid. Fit and finish are very nicely done. If you don't need or want the extra barrels, you can probably find a nice Wesson for around that price.

If it is a 'new' production (Norwich, NY) gun the price is quite reasonable. For one of the "older" production (Palmer or Monson MA) guns the price is in line or a little high in the condition you described. If the bbl nut is recessed into the shroud it would be a model 15/715 if the bbl nut sits in front of the shroud it is probably a model 12 and the value would be lower.

Fyi,I went to a law enforcement firearms instructor school in 1982. At that time we were advised to stay away fron this weapon . It was not dependable for rapid fire situations. In fact one of our officers tryed to qualify with one and had to use a borrowed s&w to get through the course. His Dan Wesson would either roll-by a round or lock up between rounds. They may be different now and of course it depends on what you are going to use it for but as for as I am concerned I don't want any gun around that may not preform in an emergency. Hope this helps.Wade
