I have a Remington Model 11 16 guage with a MOD choke made in March of 1937. I am trying to find out if it is reasonably safe to shoot slugs from this weapon? I wrote to Remington but they gave me the standard lawyers answer. They even went as far to say that they reccomend not to shoot any modern ammo through this weapon. Of course I have read about numerous people still using this weapon to hunt with. I appreciate any input you all have.

I'll talk to you, and give you an opinion which you follow at your own risk. I think that it would be perfectly safe if your gun was first inspected for safe condition by a competent gunsmith, and providing you set the gun's recoil system up for shooting heavy loads. Modern slugs are supposed to be able to pass through a full choke without causing damage, and when shot through a modified semi-auto there shoud be no problem. If you do not know how to set the gun to fire heavy loads e-mail me for a diagram. I own a Rem. Mod.11 12 Ga. full and have fired a few slugs without any damage.
