When do you change them?? I have a buffer in it, and change that about every 500 rds.[:)]

Handgunner gave you good info. I would also inspect the internal surfaces in the slide, frame and barrel for signs of battering. If you need to change recoil springs this often, what in blazes are you firing thru it. If the gun is being subjected to a diet of hot stuff, do by all means install a hardballer spring, guide and barrel bushing.
The recoil spring should have a life of no less than 2500 rds, with standard loads. 500 rds strikes seems incredibly short. Who makes the springs you are using? Have you check the compression strength of these when new? Does the recoil of you're pistol seem unusually heavy with stardard loads with a new spring? Sorry about all the questions, It just I've never seen a good quality spring die this quickly.
Kill all the lawyers and the world will be much better for it.
