What small amount of Ultramax that I shot wasn't too bad. I got lazy at the loading bench one year and bought a case of the Coyote brand (under the Hornandy banner) and it was okay too. Most of these guys (Ultramax, Coyote, Rapter7) use AA2230C behind a 55gr softpoint. Winchester had a 55 grainer that was pretty inexspensive. The Ultramax that I had was all loaded in GI cases, and the Coyote was 99% commercial, don't know about Rapter7. You won't win any matches with this stuff, but what I shot functioned flawlessy. I used it for 100-200yrd prairedog shots.
P.S. Some of them also load a higher grade of bullet (like the ballistic tip) but I don't know how it shoots 'cause I only bought the $10 a box stuff. I used it in a Colt Match Target (AR-15 type rifle)

I've shot lots of Ultramax pistol ammo, with no ill effects.
