Hottest Varmit rifle on the market. Nobody can keep rounds for it right now-it's that popular. Accurate beyond imagination.

I HAVE A RUGER 77 IN 17HMR AND IT WILL SHOOT 1/2" GROUPS AT 100 YDS. ONLY ON A STILL DAY. THEY HATE CROSSWIND. I AGREE THOUGH, AMMO IS HARD TO GET. SHOULD BE BETTER SOON NOW THAT REMINGTON AND CCI ARE ON THE SHELVES.

NO, I'M NOT EXPRESSING ANGER! I TYPE WITH CAPS BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE THE USE OF ONE HAND!

hunter 223, The 17HMR is the most amazing rimfire ever developed!! My 17VS has several sub 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards and several under 1 inch at 200 yards! 3 confirmed, measured, witnessed groundhog kills at 202,206,206 yards! And about 100 confirmed one shot kills from 50-180 yards! It runs out of steam out there on the long shots but the accuracy is such that you can "click" yourself into a head or neck shot at those distances! Once you try one, you''ll be hooked!!! GHD

I love my 17. My hunting partner took 14 hogs in one day last week with his NEF 17. Weights from 20 lbs to 210 lbs. He shot a 90 lb bore at 110 yards. Only one took a step, And it was a very short one.

Converted my Ruger 77/22 WMR into a 77/17 with the installation of a replacement barrel and slight modification to stock's barrel channel. Yes - a very accurate and pleasant rifle to shoot. As previously stated, leaves something to be desired in a crosswind of any porportion. It is pretty pricey to shoot, but hopefully the ammo availability and price will come down with more manufacturers getting on the band wagon.

    Keep off the Ridgeline

I own a Marlin 17 and it's a most fun gun to shoot. Original skepticism by my friends who were shopping for 22-250s for ground hogs was quickly put to rest. We have many 200 yd and greater instant kills. From 120 on in the sound of the bullet slapping is awesome. Killer on crows also. Have shot groups with several rifles and CCi was measurably less accurate than the Remington and Hornady. I highly recommend the .17. Friends all purchased .17s by the way.

BigheadT, Looks like you have had a few of the same experiences as me with the 17! However you left out a couple important ones!! How about watching through the scope when bullets impact? No recoil and you can see the "smack" as well as hearing it!! And you didn't have to "pick up brass" either!!!!!! Thinking about getting a 3rd gun chambered in this round!! Why does anybody need 2 much less three chambered in the same caliber? CAUSE I WANT ONE!!! Or three!!!! GHD PS: Your comments about the CCI are right on as far as my testing goes also! If the first ammunition available had been the CCI stuff, this one would have died out extremely quick!! The CCI is the slowest of the three available offerings and although I will take accuracy over speed anyday, the accuracy is hideous compared to the Hornady and Remington versions which in my tests have been interchangable!!!

I am coming around to the HMR's way of thinking, and at the ranges it was meant to be shot it should be awesome. I haven't shot of these yet, but I used to have a .17 rem and it was absolutely awesome on calm days - a .500 yard shot was no problem, but when the wind blew, I couldn't hit anything with it.
But, again this ammo was designed to shoot half that far, and I bet it does it in style.
Most people I've talked to say they love thiers, but many complain they are harder to clean than a standard .22.
I don't think you could go wrong with one - as long as you can find ammo!
