    The firm of Philip Webley and Son was established in Birmingham England in 1859.
    They remained in business making firearms, under the name of Webley & Scott, until quite recently.
    The pinfire shotgun shell was developed in France during the mid 19th century, but was superseded by centerfire shotgun shells in England and the U S by the late 1870's.

    WEBLEY & SCOTT Located in Birmingham, England operating as P.WEBLEY & SON, 1860-1897; WEBLEY & SCOTT REVOLVER & ARMS CO., 1898-1906;
    WEBLEY & SCOTT SINCE 1906....DEFFINATELY NOT 1807...The Pin Fire Cartridge has a very interesting History..The Adaptation of the percussion principle to the selfcontained metalic cartridge required many experiments and much trial and error. The Lefaucheux pinfire cartridge and breech-loading gun was patented in France in 1835 and manufacture began in 1836. Pinfire rifles,handguns and shotguns were exported to the United States in quantity..French, Belguim and England Were the Prime Makers of these guns...Weapons of this type were used to a limited extent by individuals on both side during the War between the states...The Pinfire cartridge, in original form, had a paper case with a Brass head and a pin protruding from one side that extended through the case to a percussion cap on the opposite side. The Idea worked well with Shotgun shells and Low Pressure Metalic cartridges, and achieved considerable success in Europe. The Rim Fire appeared on the Market in 1855/56 and has lasted to this very day...Just a little History which I thought you'd like to have....Best.....
