my reticle seems to have come loose

The other day at the range shooting my .22 cal my reticle started to become "turned" in the scope. In other words the horizontal line was no longer horizontal. It is a tasco world class 3-9 so I know its not worth much anymore, but how should I go about fixing it. Is there something I can do on my own, i.e. take it apart and use a dap of super glue or something or is this something that must be handled by a pro. I know if I send it to the people handling repairs for tasco its probably going to end up costing what another cheap new scope would cost. Any ideas?

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I believe you would want an honest opinion rather than a fluff opinion, at least I would [:D]

I would just toss it in the junk pile and go invest in another scope. For all intents and purposes that one is dead, fixing it would cost more than what it is worth and it would probably wind up doing the same thing again. Perhaps you might consider something other than tasco, every tasco I've ever tried has wound up in the junk pile, I've had good luck with Unertl if you're willing to shell out the cash for one but I suspect that you aren't wanting to pour that much cash into a .22 right? You might check on bushnell scopes, you can get a fair scope from bushnell that'll probably last you longer than a tasco for under $180, some less than $100 but again....you get what you pay for.

just my opinion of course....and wait for a 2nd opinion or 3, somebody here might know of a pretty decent scope for less dough.[:D]

Scopes a generally filled with nitroge of other gasses to keep them from fogging up under damp conditions. By taking it apart the gas is lost and can fog up.
As for the qualiy of Tasco scopes, there high end scopes are actually pretty good. The economy ones did'nt seem to stsnd up.
Bushnell scope are pretty good and won't hurt you wallet to bad. Stay away from the Chineese junk!

I bought a cheap Tasco 4x32 for my 10/22. It has done the job for years. Nothing great, but adequate for a .22.

If you are going to wind up junking it any way, why not take it apart first? Might be educational. Maybe someone here can give you some clues. If you can fix it, you will have learned something. I don't see how you can refill with nitrogen without some special equipment, but for plinking use, that may not matter,

    dantheman,

I think you got good advice from rldowns3.

It would be my guess that Tasco's lifetime warranty is now most likely non-existent.

I had one of those same scopes once upon a time, and experienced the same scenario as you. All of a sudden and with no warning the reticle on mine was about a quarter of a turn out of kilter.

Actually it wasn't a total waste.... That scope helped me harvest about 10 or 12 deer before it crapped out...

Actually, Tasco Warranties are still good! Go to their website at the following URL and you can find an 800 phone number to call. There is a company in Florida called ABOUSAINC that charges $23.00 for shipping and handling and will repair/replace any Tasco scope, (According to Tasco). If they repair yours or give you another one for $23.00, you might be hard pressed to buy a new scope for that amount.

Not to mention Bushnell purchased Tasco and will be producing them from now on. I would even call Bushnell to see if they will fix it,...it's worth a try.

Or then you could by another scope.

I wouldn't take it apart if there was a chance of warranty work. Definitely check that out before you tear it down. Doesn't make sense to do anything that would void the warranty.

you probably dont want to put a 300.00 scope on a 200.00 rifle. there are many pro's and con's about the tasco line. my tasco 4x16 world class was purchased in the 1970's and in my opinion is an excellent scope. they started to go downhill sometime after that.if you can get it repaired for 23.00, i would do it.[;)]
