Last weekend I worked for Smith & Wesson at a local shooting sports fair.
All day long we had by far the longest line compared to the other manufacturers present, and 90% of the people in line wanted, and payed 2 bucks a round, to shoot the new 500.
We were using a 320 gr lead target load. It was stamped 500-S&W Mag, and "Jamison".
Since this was a not too heavy load, and the gun weighs about 4 pounds, it kicked about like a .44 Mag.
There will be heavier hunting loads up into the 430-440 grain area, and I understand the ammo will be almost $3.00 per round.
We had 3 of the new model 500's and they barely had time to cool all day long.
They are not for sale in Calif yet because they are not yet on the approved list.

Jamison is the only maker of brass for this round that I've heard of. Once there are some more guns available, your options for ammo or reloading components will increase but my guess is that will be awhile.

Is the brass similar to the .50 AE brass?

Are the cartridges similar at all?
