Savage 99 TD barrel

I have an old Savage 1899 .22 HP and can't seem to get the TD barrel to unscrew. I have followed the directions (I also have two other TD's that disassemble just fine.) I have opened the lever action all the way and used the fore-end piece, put it in the notch provided to unscrew, but it is very tight! I am afraid I may crack the fore-end with too much pressure. I have been told to try a little penetrating oil to loosen the threads. I may just have to take it to a gunsmith to get ii removed. Any suggestions?

I also have a .410 barrel for my 99G TD. When I screw the barrel on to either one of my two TD (F and G Models), it goes on just fine, but turns by the grove on the bottom of the reciever about 1/8-1/4 inch, which of course offsets the fornt sight. I have been told that a gunsmith can fit the barrel by adding a shim, washer or?? Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave
