HI, My father inlaw just gave me a winchester model 1400 20 gauge 28 inch barrel 2.75 shells semi auto shotgun with a full choke that was purchased by my wifes godfather at a Sears over 25 years ago. The shotgun was given to my father inlaw because of a 250 dollar debt owed to him by my wifes godfather. They both tell me the shotgun has never been fired. The wood stock is in perferct condition, no scratches and no signs of rust or oxidation on the body it self. My father inlaw gave it to me as a birthday gift because he heard I was picking up skeet shooting as a hobby. So my question is, is this shotgun worth holding onto and not firing it, or should I FIRE AWAY.

Winchester is sadly out of the running when it comes to modern shotguns. In most cases they don't even command the same respect that Mossberg or Stevens get.

This isn't to sat they're a bad gun, only to point out that they have no value beyond their utility.

Fire away! Soon your eyes will begin to rove toward a classic A-5, or perhaps a Red Label. Something will will move you beyond the Winchester if the scattergun bug really bites.

I have the Model 1200 Pump in 20 Ga. I think New it was $195.00 but it is a good work (don't care if it gets scratched) gun.

I wouldn't hesitate a bit to fire away with the ol' boy..........It's not gonna be worth much more than the $250 anyway. Now if it was an A5 browning, it would be an all together different story.
