Winchester Model 1905 and 1907?

Anyone have any experience or opinion on either of these two rifles? I have a chance to buy one or both at an auction and would appreciate any feedback. Both are sporting models in good plus condition. I have several older Winchesters including a 1903 and I would like to add to my collection. Which would you go for and why. Thanks.

From a collectors viewpoint I would go with the 1905 they were only made for 15 years and only half as many were made, total as compared to the 1907.

Rufe, thanks for the response and your opinion. I did some research, including a search of this forum, that offers some insight. There is a really interesting article in a recent American Rifleman about the early Win semis. It seems like a lot fewer '05s were made because they were underpowered. The '07 is much heftier and shoots a bigger round, but, still is somewhat underpowered. Interesting to read about their use in WWI. Also, the search here mentions how hard it can be to find mags for the '05. I suppose I will try to get them both if affordable for me. There are several other rifles and shotguns at this auction, including 2 or 3 early 1894's so maybe what I want will be available. Thanks again, Forum.

The 05 went for $210 and the 07 went for $300. Upon closer inspection the 05's stock had some problems, so I lost interest in that. There was a retired policeman who was drooling over the 07 and told me he regretted selling one that he used to have and wanted to replace it. I was glad he got it and the price didn't get bid up to high.
