Can someone tell me if the SAA made in 1882 for 455E has the same dimensions for the cylinder and barrel ID as the standard SAA of the same period? I want to know if a standard black powder cartridge will fit into a 455E gun

Hello the diameter of the cyl and outside of the barrel would be the same BUT and a big BUT. This is a rare caliber in a Colt and I would never try to shoot any cartridge in any pistol unless I felt sure I knew the gun was in good working order and that I had the right cartridge for that gun .My suggestion would be to get an hands on appraisal from a colt expert and buy a modern gun to shoot. this pistol is over 100 years old and you could go from thousands of dollars to junk if you blow the cyl. or frame.

NO......! Don't even think it!...If You have one or know someone that does....Don't try to shoot it with anything but what it was designed for..There were only 1150 .455 Eleys produced in the Colt Single Action Army...Very Rare....
