Is it possible to replace the plastic vent rib on a Remington 600 with metal rib that won't warp, yet look original. Thanks in advance.

The 222 rem 223 rem and 222 rem mag all share the same case head dimension, the bolt will interchange. When you change the barrel it will be neccesary to check headspace. Not sure on part interchange might depend on which parts you refer to.

    Had to be,TH.

The 600/660/Mohawk was never chambered in .222 mag.

    peace6817,

Remington barrels are not indexed during manufacturing so your gunsmith will have to set the barrel back in order to get the sights to line up, then cut the chamber for a proper, safe headspace.

As pointed out, the boltface for the .222 Rem. Mag. is the same as the .222 Rem., .223 Rem., .17 Rem. and any other cartridge with a 0.378" rim diameter.

Parts from either the 600 or the 660 should interchange with the exception of the barrel problem above.

    Best.

    peace6817,

Yes, correct, because the chance of the new barrel lining up AND headspacing correctly with a Remington product is slim to none. These rifles and barrels were made long before CNC manufacturing came into common use in the firearms industry. Besides, just plain old indexing for threading takes time and costs money so most of the firearms makers ignore it. Many of the newer custom receivers have indexed threading so it's easy to make barrels for them even without the receiver. It takes care and good measuring ability.

    Best.

    ADDED:

According to Remington, they never made a commercially released .222 Rem. Mag. in the Model 600, Mohawk 600 or 660. It may have come out of their 'custom' shop...

    peace6817,

That's for the collector guys to say, I don't collect. Well, I don't collect Remingtons.

Post some good photographs of the barrel markings including those by the chamber, under the stockline, and the rollmarks at the mid-point of the barrel.

My guess would be that a shooter had the the .222 Rem. chamber re-cut for the .222 Mag. since the Mag. is not on Remington's list. But stranger things have happened and as I say, I'm not a collector. Post pictures if you can.

    Best.
