I'm interested in purchasing a new Taurus PT1911 but a local dealer said Taurus is having major quality control problems right now and getting warrenty work done is almost impossible. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with Crimson Trace laser grips?

Thanks

    I've owned/own a few 1911s, a Caspian and a few Kimbers....I am curious if anyone owns the Taurus PT1911.....

It seems like a very reasonable price with the features..how is the quality? How does it shoot?

I realize its not top of the line, just curious on actual ownership testimonials....Thanks!

Kind of 2 questions in one.

1st, a little info. Have a PT1911, very nice 1911 clone for the price, shoots very well except low and to the left. Sights are Heinie Straight 8's so I can only adjust for windage. Elevation can't be changed without disrupting the correct sight picture. Taurus uses their own dovetail and Heinie cuts the rear sights sent to Taurus accordingly. It is not an industry standard dovetail such as Novak or Bomar, etc uses. I've checked this with both Taurus and Heinie to make sure my facts are in order.

Now for the questions. Does anyone out there know of someone that is manufacturing an adjustable rear sight that will fit the Taurus dovetail? If not, I am looking for a reliable, well known pistolsmith/gunsmith that will recut my slide to a standard dovetail so I can replace the Heinie sight with an adjustable version from someone. Any info would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Pete

Anyone had good luck with the Taurus 1911? [?] I am considering getting one - seem like a very nice pistol for the price.

    Thanks all -

Now that the PT1911 has been out for awhile, what is the general consensus of this pistol? Good, bad, junk, poor quality,etc.,etc.,?

I just returned from the range where I was trying out my new PT1911. From the first shot it had light firing pin hits. Frequently wouldn't fire even with 3 or 4 tries on the same cartridge. This was the sales floor gun and didn't appear to have been abused but could have been dry fired a lot.

I removed the firing pin and spring and cleaned them both. They were oily but clean. No evidence of penned parts. I dried them and reassembled the gun and still had the problem. I'm going to spray the firing pin hole in the slide with solvent and see if that corrects the problem.

Any other ideas that I can try?

I just purchased a Taurus PT1911 and am wondering if anyone has found a "safer" method to lower the hammer on a round in the chamber. The hammer on this gun seems to be smaller than I am comfortable with and I have not found a better way to do it. Are you aware of a replacement hammer that might provide more space for the thumb to ease it down.
