Advice Needed on Damaged New Rifle

Last week i won on the GB auction a nib Remington 700 LVSF rifle in 308.
It arrived yesterday at my FFL.
The rifle was packed and sealed in it's factory Remington box and placed into a shipping box.
Neither box was damaged in any way.
We opened the factory box to check to make sure the serial number matched what was on the box and i did the paper work ordeal, finished that, put the rifle which was still in the factory box into the truck and drove home.
After getting home i pulled the rifle out and wiped it down and then inserted the bolt.
When i closed the bolt it made an audible metallic screeching noise when closing it.
I cycled it a few more times with the same results.
Pulled it out and sprayed some Rem. gun oil on a clean rag and went over the bolt.
Same thing.
So i pulled the bolt out and remembering that another time my brother had over tightened the stock screws after doing a through cleaning on a rifle he owned he had a bad binding of the bolt.
So i turned the rifle upside down and the light in the room caught something on the black crinkle finished stock that caught my eye.
Sure enough there is a crack running fron the trigger guard going up to near the area where the bolt recess is.
Also there is yet another crack running from about the middle area of the blind magzine area running in a curved pattern downward about an inch or more.
You can actually feel one of the cracks with your finger nail.
So now what??
I really dont think it was damaged in freight because of the condition of the boxes, but i dont know.
I have a stronger feeling this rifle left Illion like this.
I intend to call the dealer i bought from this morning to inform him of my discovery but i am not sure what he can do about this either.
Is this a warranty issue???
These stocks on these rifles are made by Bell& Carlson and i am very sure they are not cheap to purchase.
I certainly hope i dont get hung out to dry on this.
So just what is my recourse guys??
Advice please guys as i have never dealt with anything of this nature before.
Damn!!

You are doing the right thing. Just be sure to save all the packing materials.

Unless your dealer is a distributor, he got the rifle from HIS distributor, not the factory. If you are lucky, he got it from Davidson, but other distributors may not be so accommodating. You may be asked to file a claim with the carrier, but only so that they can rule out damage during shipment. In any case, you will have to wait for a decision from the distributor.

If you don't get a replacement, you may have to take your case directly to the manufacturer. I suspect that they will do whatever is necessary to make you happy.

I had a similar problem with a Colt SAA many years ago. The gun arrived with damage from amateur gunsmithing. Since I knew my dealer well, I knew HE didn't do it. I suspected that an employee at the distributor had switched his personal gun for a new one in inventory, but the distributor denied all responsibility. I finally got it repaired by writing directly to Colt.

Let us know how it turns out.

    Thanks Neal.
    One thing though.
I did not take home the packing box the factiory box was placed in.
I really had no need for it.
    And again,neither box was damaged,creased,crushed,torn,etc.
    Damn again.

    Contact Remington.
If it is a factory defect, and sounds that way, they will fix it.
