I have a Chinese military Tokarev in this caliber that I have yet to shoot. Anyone have an opinion about its merits and suggest ammo manufacturer/type? Many thanks.

yes it is a good round. 18001600 fps or so in sellier and bellot(which is the only commercial stuff easily ordered). some of the surplus stuff may not go bang the first time. some even suggest the tokarev is stronger than cz52. either way here is some datahttp://makarov.com/tokloaddata.html
    and another ammo source

One of the best. World high speed champ until introduction of the .357 Magnum in 1935.

Softnose and hollowpoints expansion are excellent and the bottlenecked cartridge seldom jams.

ADDENDUM: 7.63 Mauser is the predecessor of this cartridge. Only difference is hotter powder.

Very nice round...potent, but no hand cannon.
S & B ammo shoots uniformly and is fairly clean. Some of the mildly corrosive import ammo seems hotter, but I have no chronograph to evaluate it.

I have a Tokarev that had the 9mm bbl installed when I bought it. I changed over to the 7.62 x 25 bbl and spring that came with it and never looked back.

Good round. Most of the firearms chambered for it leave something to be desired. I like the Torkarev design. The CZ is a bit bulky and ugly at best. I have had four of the CZ's and all seemed to function flawlessly, but still ugly. I have only owned one of the Torkarev's and at first I had some real problems with jamming. Took it apart and cleaned it a bit. Had to remove some burrs in the slide races which cured the jamming problem.

I HAVE 2 CZ-52'S. I LOVE THEM. THEY ARE INEXPENSIVE, & I CAN MAKE MY OWN BRASS OUT OF COMMERICAL 223 BRASS, WHICH LAST A LOT LONGER THAN S&B BRASS. I USE A CAST 110gr GAS CHECKED BULLET I ORIGIONALY CAST FOR MY 30CAL CARBINE RUGER. LOADED WITH BULLSEYE, IT IS A HOT LITTLE ROUND, & FUN TO SHOOT. LIFE IS GOOD.

RIFLE-I have not had any luck with Bullseye under a 110 grain bullet in my CZ 52. Please share your load. Thanks.

had a polish style tokarev several years ago...fit me better than the cz style..nib at time was around $140 and ammo was $10 for 70 rds, military ball...never skipped a beat ...i suppose the fun is in lots of cheap ammo.....enjoy

Great round. Not much else to say there. But the chinese Torarev were the weakest out of the bunch. Be careful shooting mil-surp ammo out of them. Some of the mil-surp on the market was made for sub-guns, so it's hotter. The CZ-52 is one of the most over built semi-auto's ever made.
