Trying to get the wooden forearm off a older 870 Wingmaster. Went to Remington's Website printed out the manual, but it isn't working Trigger assembly is out, but how do you get the forearm off???? What am I missing.

I have a little rust on the mag tube and I can't get to it...

Thanks,
Mike

Try pushing in on the shellstops while pulling out on the forend. This should do the trick.

Tried that, only the side with the ejection port will move the other side is real stiff. Not sure if it is stuck or what. Pushing in on the side with the eject port is not letting it come out.

REDMAN is right. If the one don't move you need to free it. Spray with penetrating oil (WD-40 or that type) let it set and try to keep freeing it being carefull not to break or bend the shell stop.It needs to freed up anyway as it is likely to cause magazine feed malfunctions.

Here's how my 870 12ga Wingmaster (right-hand recvr) forend assembly comes off. 1) Remove magazine cap. 2) Remove barrel (works best if action/bolt is about halfway closed) 3) Gently close action with barrel removed (Note: You will hear an audible click and sort of feel it when it locks up fully forward.) DO NOT SLAM ACTION SHUT WHEN BBL IS REMOVED 4) Raise shell carrier up with right-hand thumb and feel for the shell catcher tab (on left side of receiver) with same said thumb 5) Depress in fully toward left side of receiver. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO PUSH IN REALLY HARD if alot of gunk has accumulated over time. My action is super clean and well lubricated and it just pulls out through the end of the bolt face opening at this point. NO ACTION WHATSOEVER was required with regard to the right side action bar. Nothing on the inside (right side) of the receiver needed any pressing, pushing, manipulating on my 870 shotgun, so yours should work the same. Hope this helps you. Let us know. Later, RC

Just checked 2 new 870's and one older one to make sure, the left shell stop has to be depressed and then the forend pulled forward alittle, then the right shell stop had to be depressed to remove the forend. This are unaltered guns in new or excellent condition.
